Sun in art

Source of light and heat and even life itself, the sun has been the topic of artistic fascination for millenia. Go to any national museum and you will find evidence of how man has strived to harness and understand its power and force. We have chiselled it in stone, hammered and engraved it in metal, carved it in wood, painted and drawn it on parchment and canvas. It has always had the power to bewilder, amaze and strike awe. It is a constant presence of beauty, comfort and unmatchable power.
