What Happened Miss Simone?

Classically trained pianist, dive-bar chanteuse, black power icon and legendary recording artist Nina Simone lived a life of brutal honesty, musical genius, and tortured melancholy.  She was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder in the late 1980’s.

Liz Garbus’ brilliant movie was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at 88th Academy Awards.  Sometimes hard to watch with its unblinking gaze on Simone’s often harrowing story, but Garbus does a noble job of unpacking this musical genius’s complex life.
