Walter Crane
Walter Crane was an English artist and book illustrator and one of the strongest contributors to children's illustrated literature in the late 19th century.
He was a talented and renowned painter but earned his best living doing illustrations for nursery rhymes, fables and alphabet books. As a key figure in theArts & Crafts movement his breadth of work covered painting, illustration, writing children's books, and designing ceramic tiles, wallpapers and tapestries. He also used his art for the direct advancement of the socialist cause, being a close friend and collaborator with fellow socialist William Morris and designing the cover for the 1885 edition of the Socialist League.
