John William Waterhouse [1849-1917], was a British Pre-Raphaelite artist. He was mainly known for his depictions of women from both ancient Greek mythology and Arthurian legend. They specifically depict a single young and beautiful woman in historical costume and setting. In total Waterhouse produced 118 paintings, and within that, 13 sketchbooks which are still in existence today.
